Trash to Treasure projects
Over at Rendition Road, Stacey tells us, “I found this solid, hand built chest tossed curbside & took her home. I could tell it was hand built by someone who knew what they were doing. She was in such bad shape though, cleanliness wise, that she needed some intensive care once I got her home.”
One of Martha Stewart’s Craft of the Day posts inspired Carolyn of Homework to look at some of her old baskets with more creativity. Martha’s baskets were dipped in paint, but Carolyn decided there was probably an easier way to achieve a similar look.
Over at House by Hoff, April tells us, “The other night I was emptying out our refrigerator and throwing out the “yucky stuff”. I was about to throw away these four little dip containers, but I paused, examined them closer, and realized that they were kinda cute. I had no idea what I would use them for, but an idea emerged soon enough!”
At The Pink Hammer Blog, Kelly shared a terrific idea for organizing jewelry. During a recent move, she was dismayed to discover how tangled her jewelry had become. When she found an old cheese grater that someone else was ready to throw out, inspiration struck.
Jessi from Practically Functional says, “I found a really well-constructed pallet in the alley behind our apartment, and knew I had to snatch it up quick before anyone else did!”
Pam blogs at diy Design Fanatic, where she claims that necessity is the mother of invention. ”I looked for at least 2 months for a basket for our daughter’s room. I looked at Marshall’s, HomeGoods, Ikea, TJ Maxx, Target, but didn’t have any luck. None of the baskets were the right size.” One day, walking out of Trader Joe’s, she spotted an empty box that was the perfect size, and was desperate enough to bring it home!
Time to check in with Meredith & Gwyneth, the New Yorkie. They’ve been working on a fun project for their New York apartment that started out with discovering Meredith’s old footlocker trunk in the atti, last week.
At Sunset Coast, Cindy tells us, “I’ve been seeing those great painted dressers lately in many different colors all over the bloggyland. A few have been in a mustard shade that I have been wanting to try out on something. I can’t possibly lug one of those big bureaus home by myself, but I can get the look with this miniature version, a musical jewelry box.”
