At Elizabeth Joan Designs, Emily has a great idea that will keep empty toilet paper rolls out of the trash. She’s turning the cardboard tubes into a decomposable home for starting plants.
For this project, Emily started collecting all of the empty toilet paper and paper towel rolls that her household went through. She folded in one end of each tube, so that it would form more of a cup. She lined all the cups up in plastic containers, filled them with potting soil, and added seeds of the vegetables she planned to use in her garden. When the seedlings are big enough to plant, Emily can put them right into the soil, where they will decompose and make room for the seedling’s roots. Great idea!
