Doe, a Deer, a Plush Head Deer

Laura “fell in love with the idea of having a plush faux deer head” in her daughter’s woodland nursery. The price tags she found online, however, scared her off. But when a great online tutorial, some reclaimed wood, and the deer antlers in her garage came together, the results were fabulous! Laura is walking us through the process at The Turquoise Home.

Laura is up-front in saying that this project was . . . “a labor of love.” Which I’m pretty sure is code for involved. Stained reclaimed barn wood and became the plaque, along with scrap wood for the structure of the deer head. She drilled the antlers into place, then got started on the trial-and-error process of sewing the head. When it was finished, she stuffed it with poly-fill, placed it on the stand, and stapled it into place. Laura hot-glued on the ears, the felt eyes and nose, and a cute flower. Laura says, “Miss Deer isn’t perfect, but she’s lovingly hand-made.” Perfect or not, I think Miss Deer is absolutely beautiful!
