Here’s an idea from Eliza of Eliza K that will help keep old corks out of landfills. She’s come up with a neat way to recycle used bottle corks into coasters.
Eliza chooses corks that fit well together and then glues them together with crazy glue to form a square. The cork wood works really well as an absorbent material that protects wood and other surfaces from heat, cold, or moisture. The natural color of the cork is so organic and beautiful.
Follow the tutorial over at Eliza K to make a few of these for your own house, or as a housewarming gift for someone else. (Bonus idea: save the corks from wine served at a special occasion-wedding, anniversary, etc.-to make these costers and create a sentimental gift set.)
