Heart Pallet Art

When Kristi from I Should Be Mopping the Floor got word from a friend that a stack of pallets was up for grabs in her neighborhood, she quickly sent the hubs over to stake a claim. Kristi kindly shared her loot with other pallet-lovin’ friends but saved one to create some custom artwork.

Since the piece was going to hang in her master bedroom, Kristi opted for a simple heart. She used a technique to achieve a highly distressed finish and placed her new creation above her faux fireplace. She’s now loving her “ little pallet heART.”

Wine Cork Knives

Although I am not a wine drinker, I have enjoyed exploring all the reuses for those crafty little corks. They really feature cool text and logos, so it seems like such a shame to throw them away! Val at Yarni Gras found a way to use her wine corks to refab some old canapé knives she had kicking around.

Val removed the old handles with a mallet and then simply stuck the remaining tips into slits cut into the corks. That’s it! The cork closes around itself, making for a nice snug fit. Val even has you covered with a cheese ball recipe so you can start using your new again knives right away!

Magazine Collage Art

You may remember cutting out letters and pictures from old magazines as a child to create collages. Well, Deb from Deb Schwedhelm Photoblog took this school-time activity to a whole different level! Deb and her kiddos spent weeks clipping from magazines to create a really cool piece of “I love you” artwork.

The assortment of colors, sizes, and fonts makes for a really eye-catching piece of art. Of course, I love that this was a family project that they can all take pride in completing together. No doubt Deb and the kids will have fond memories of hours spent cutting at the table each time they walk by and get a glimpse of an “I love you.”

Painted Leather Chair

Karen from Redoux got this leather chair from a friend whose aunt had passed away. The chair was really in great shape with the exception of the fact that it reeked of cigarette smoke.

Karen scrubbed the chair thoroughly and then painted and glazed the frame. The leather upholstery got a glam new look with some silver spray paint. If you are questioning how well the paint has held up on the leather, Karen is happy to report the chair is still going strong and looks perfect after three years!

Wood Grain Coffee Table

Beth and Nick from Sawdust and Embryos recently tackled some of the pieces that have been collecting dust in their garage for awhile. In need of a serious makeover was this rundown coffee table that was missing the original glass panels from the top and had a broken wicker panel on the bottom.

Beth and Nick delivered with one amazing transformation! For their one-of-a-kind table, Beth and Nick used a technique to create a wood grain design featured on a background of glossy black paint. I am simply blown away by their work. Totally glam and fabulous!

Baker’s Twine Storage

After accumulating a little collection of baker’s twine, Michele from The Scrap Shoppe came up with a creative way to keep it neat and organized using mini Pringles cans. Michele found that the little cans happen to almost the same size as a roll of baker’s twine. Don’t you love those convenient little discoveries?

Michele cleaned her containers and then prettied them up with decorative paper and Mod Podge. A small hole drilled into the lid makes it easy to grab some twine when you’re getting your craft on. This is definitely my type or storage – free, easy, and “cute to boot” as Michele says!

Shotgun Shell Wreath

This project is pretty hilarious if you’ve got a hunter in your life. Over at Instructables, you can see how to make a wreath from shotgun shells and a lighter designed to look like a shotgun. While the tutorial uses live shells, I would imagine empty casings would work as well.

This wreath was designed as a festive Christmas wreath with red and green shells; however, I could see it used as year-round décor for a man cave. It would definitely spark some conversation with guests.

Office Farm Table

Karen from Redoux got a freebie farm table from Craigslist. It originally had white legs and a top that was in pretty rough shape to say the least.

With a new top and weathered wood paint treatment, the resized table is now a beautiful and functional workspace for Karen’s office. So Karen’s wise words of advice are, “Next time you see a sad old Farm Table, don’t discount it, you can change the top, make it bigger, or cut down the sides and make it smaller to fit your space.”
