For the Love of Junk

One of Kathy’s favorite things to do is create art using all kinds of scraps and odds and ends that she’s collected over the years.  Some people might call it junk, but she has an eye for beauty and can imagine so many possibilities when she looks at old things.  Check out her latest creation–just in time for Valentine’s Day–at Petticoat Junktion.

For this project, Kathy made use of some scrap metal and reclaimed wood.  “We lived in Pensacola during the time folks were rebuilding after a series of hurricanes,” she explains.  “I used to drive through neighborhoods every morning and sort through fence wood that was awaiting garbage pickup.”  She lightened the wood with a quick brush of paint.  Next, Kathy went through her scrap metal until she’d found pieces that resembled the letters L-O-V-E.  She glued them in place on the board using E6000.  Now Kathy has Valentine decor that also expresses her love for turning trash to treasure!

Here are her latest creatitons:  angels made from reclaimed wood and rusty junk hardware.  Aren’t those cool?  Kathy says, “I’ve been putting these Angels together for a few years now and when I find time to sit down and go through the crates of hardware I enjoy fitting the pieces together.”  Talk about an awesome hobby.
