Faux Snow Centerpiece

“I’m a texture girl,” claims Amy at Stow & Tell U, “and I couldn’t help but try and diy-up some faux snow for the holidays.  I saved up a bunch of soup cans from Thanksgiving and put together a faux snow centerpiece.”

After cleaning and removing labels from the empty soup cans, Amy changed up their look a bit by painting some of them so that they looked more rustic.  After some experimentation, she came up with a recipe for a highly textural paint, that took on the dimensional appearance of snow.  She let it “drip” over the top of the cans, giving a snow-topped effect.  Candles, cinnamon sticks, and pine boughs completed the centerpiece.  How lovely!

Paper Bag Becomes Elegant Christmas Decor

You are going to have a hard time believing that a humble paper bag was the beginning of these pretty Christmas decorations from Aimee at It’s Overflowing.  But it really is a simple shopping bag from the local grocery store that Aimee recycled to become the cone base to form decorative pine trees.

I’ve seen lots of different ways online to decorate these simple cone shapes as Christmas trees, but I think Aimee’s twist with white feathers has to be one of my favorites.  Those feathers really make it look like a snow-covered tree.  They are so soft and pretty, perfect for winter decor!

Aimee provides a detailed tutorial at It’s Overflowing so that you can recycle your own shopping bags into gorgeous holiday decor.

Sweater Vase Cozies

You may remember the sweater pillows I recently made for a friend’s home. With colder weather in the future, it got me thinking about other fun sweater upcycling projects. Alicia from Thrifty and Chic wowed me with this fun idea for repurposing an old sweater.

Alicia used the sleeves from some sweaters to create cozies for her vases. You know they get cold too {wink}.  I love this look for winter and, like Alicia points out, the warmth and texture it lends to a space.
