An Old Drawer Becomes New Book Storage

“Our bedroom is constantly littered with Brennan’s books so I was looking for a way to hide a stash of books there permanently,” says Christy at Confessions of a Serial DIYer.  So, when she spotted her husband heading out to the trash with an old drawer leftover from a past furniture makeover, Christy made him bring it right back inside.  She had an idea for how to repurpose that drawer.

Christy knew that the drawer had potential to solve her book storage dilemma.  First, she added legs to the bottom of the drawer, using some she’d found at a yard sale.  Next, she switched the boring white paint on the drawer for pretty, chippy layers of blue chalk paint.  A new mercury glass knob from Hobby Lobby completed the transformation.  Now the former drawer contains what was once a haphazard pile of storybooks–and it does so beautifully!

Drawer Wall Shelves

Kristen from Botany Boeh was inspired by a picture in a magazine to create wall shelves out of old drawers. The only problem was… she had no drawers! After they didn’t appear on the side of the ride for her to rescue, Kristen turned to good ol’ Craigslist to post a want ad. And whadda know, she got herself four drawers!

After a good cleaning and fresh coat of paint, the drawers were ready to hang and house all of Kristen’s books. Since the drawers are separate, they provide a natural organization system that is perfect for books. The drawers could even serve as art with some fun paper or fabric decoupaged inside!
