Trash to Treasure projects
Jenna at SAS Interiors was trying to figure out a way to make a little kitchen for her two year old daughter, who loves to play with pretend food. So when Grandma showed up with this old nightstand–a thrift store night stand, Jenna knew she could turn it into the perfect spot for her daughter to play.
Amy, from Buffalo Roam, had just moved into her new house and had a big hole where the dining table should be. Luckily, her husband is handy and decided to build them a new one. The source of the heavy-duty tabletop is pretty awesome: it is made from three planks of apple wood that came out of the old Santa Fe rail road box cars that carried wine.
When Gail from My Repurposed Life found this old record cabinet, it was in really bad shape. It was scruffy and water damaged. Luckily, Gail has a great imagination and could see possibilities where most people would only see a trip to the trash bin.
Over at Thistlewood Farm, KariAnne had a very shabby wicker desk she’d found at a yard sale. The desktop was pretty damaged, and when some serious sanding wouldn’t fix that, KariAnne had to come up with a plan B. Her solution? Stick-on cork tiles from Walmart.
This project, from Laura at House of Joyful Noise, started out with two things: a pile of shoes and some old doors. Laura’s busy family needed a place to corral the many pairs of shoes that were getting left beside the door. She and her husband came up with the brilliant idea to use old doors to make a storage box that is both useful and beautiful.
Susan came across this empty box on the shelves at her local grocery store. She felt a little silly admitting it, but there was something about the size and shape that really appealed to her, so she brought it home along with her groceries and set about finding a good use for it. It took Susan–who blogs at Organized 31–a few months, but she finally realized that it could be used for holding CD’s and DVD’s.
Meredith & Gwyneth, the New Yorkie, is a blog about the adventures of a thrify gal and her cute dog in the big city. One of Yorkie Gwyneth’s talents is finding great trash for her owner, Meredith, to bring home for makeovers. Take this little old bar cart, for instance, that the pair discovered alongside a dumpster while they were out on one of their walks.
