Wooden Spool Gets a Book Loving Redo

At Our House, Now a Home, Emily shares a terrific rescue project.  “I got this spool as a freebie when I was picking up some chairs
from a craigslist post,” she explains.  “It was going to be thrown out”  Emily had a feeling that she could turn it into something amazing, so she brought it home and did just that!

Since the shelf they had been using to store children’s books was broken, Emily was looking for another book storage option.  She cut out a circular shelf from 1/2 inch plywood.  She used 3/4 inch dowel rods to hold the shelf in place.  Once the shelf was constructed, Emily painted the whole thing white.  Now it pulls double duty in her study as both a bookshelf and a small table.  “It holds roughly 90 books,” she says of the newly finished shelf.  Awesome!

  1. Now that is danged clever! I used to use those reels for goat play, the loved playing king on the mountain and gave endless hours of enjoyment watching them.
True confessions here…when I saw “Raodkill Rescue” my mind, immediately, went to Marlinton, WV where each year they have a roadkill cook-off. Sounds dreadful but it’s been on the major food tv shows.

I laughed out load over this comment…goats…roadkill cook-off…oh my! Thanks for stopping by and brightening my day. I agree, this is a very clever rescue project.

This is one of the most fabulous and creative things I have seen in a long time. You never know what you are going to find sitting out on someone curb on trash day, or at garage sales and I am a true believer, “another mans trash is another mans treasure”. I grew up learning this from my Mom who has furnished almost her entire house with things from the very places I mentioned above and her all time favorite place to find things is the Good Will. If it needs revamping she is excellent at doing it! Love it and keep it up and can’t wait to see what is next for you!
