A Sentimental Ornament Made with Grandma’s Buttons

“Growing up, Christmas Eve was always spent at my maternal grandma’s house. She passed years ago, but this time of year I am always thinking of her,” reminisces Shanna at Restoration Redoux.  ”One thing I have of hers is her sewing basket. I was looking through it the other day and found a package of vintage buttons. They had been in there forever, so I decided to make a button ornament with them.”

Shanna used a styrofoam ball as the base of this ornament.  She had an old, stained lace tablecloth that she cut a scrap off of to use to cover the styrofoam.  She used a pin to attach a loop of twine to the top of the ball, for holding the ornament onto the tree.  Then, Shanna simply hot glued buttons from her grandma’s collection all over the ball.  ”Once the whole ball is covered with buttons, you are finished!” she says.  This simple project produced something that gives Shanna happy memories of her grandmother each time she looks at the Christmas tree.
