A Lampshade Makeover That Couldn’t Have Happened Too Soon

Amy of Show & Tell U came home from antiquing in Kentucky with these unique lamps, last year.   She fell in love with the unique black and white textured bases.  The shades, on the other hand….let’s just say that the pastel calico patterned shades with a tutu styled ruffle were a reeeeeally interesting design choice!

While the calico and tutu had to go, Amy realized that the shades themselves were the perfect shape and size for these particular lamps.  So instead of tossing the shades, she transformed them.  The first order of business was pulling off the tutu trim.  Next, Amy painted the shade with several coats of Mod Podge Matte and black craft paint combine.  Once the shades were black, she realized that ruffle trim wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t calico, so Amy trimmed each shade with white ruffles.  The combination of simple black and white on both shade and lamp is really lovely.
