Two Buck Textured Table

At The Happy Housie, Krista scored a little side table for two bucks at a garage sale!  It definitely needed some work, but she knew she could turn this sad little table into something to be proud of.

After cleaning the table thoroughly, Krista primed it with a basic water based, then painted the base with two coats of white latex based paint.  Then she used a piece of card stock to brush three colors of acrylic craft paint across the table top in stripes while preserving the texture of the wood grain.  She layered the colors a bit to mix them and make the stripes appear less uniform.  Since Krista’s stripes of color turned out to be brighter than she expected, she let them dry and then repeated the technique with white craft paint over the top, which muted the colors a bit.  After letting the paint dry completely, Krista applied a few coats of water based sealer.  To finish the table’s new look, she hot glued sisal rope around the edges, wrapping the rope around the table in rows as she glued and staggering her starting points.  I love the texture of the rope with the painterly tabletop, don’t you?  It’s beautiful, Krista!
