Happy New Year and the Top 10 of 2012

Happy New Year to all of my fellow Roadkill Rescuers!  2012 was full of terrific ideas for turning trash into treasure submitted by many of you.  It’s always so exciting to see what a little creativity and a lot of elbow grease can do to transform a humble object that was headed for the dumpster.  Some of the projects featured here at Roadkill Rescue continue to get a lot of buzz, even months after they were posted.  Curious about which ones were the best loved this year?  Let’s take a look!

#1 Congratulations to Elise from Creativity in DIY who swept the top spot this year with her Doily Design Chair.  The wood tones peeking out from the fresh white paint totally made this project!  Lots of you agreed, pinning this chair over and over again, and leaving lots of comments about it.

#2  WUVIE at Instructables drank enough frappuccinos this year to make these darling Etched Glass Spice Jars and become the second most popular post this year.   This was a great upcycling project, and provided lots of inspiration to readers looking for creative, inexpensive storage options.

#3 The eye-catching shade of berry red on these Stenciled Wild Berry Chairs definitely got your attention.  They were transformed by Nikki from The Lovely Residence.

#4  You would never imagine that this lovely piece of artwork came from toilet paper, would you?  Chris from Just a Girl came up with this super simple and inexpensive Toilet Paper Roll Canvas Art.

#5  Loren from Pandora’s Craft Box and her husband completely transformed a dumpster find.  The makeover of this Reupholstered Wingback Chair was dramatic enough to earn it a spot in our Top 5!

#6  I really loved this Entryway Storage Cabinet  that got a total makeover from  Jennifer of My Fabuless Life.  What a pretty color!

#7  Laura from The Happy Homemaker  saved a vintage TV from the trash and remade it as a Console Table.  (These TV makeovers sure are popular–one of them was last year’s #1 project!)

#8  Deb from Deb Schwedhelm Photoblog took magazine recycling to a whole new level when she and her children created this I Love You Magazine Art from their old magazines.  Valentine’s day is right around the corner…I suggest you pin this one again!

#9  We’re all on the lookout for ways to contain the electronic clutter of our modern lives, so when Ashley at Make It and Love It came up with this Cell Phone Charging Holder from an old baby lotion bottle, we were all over it!

#10  This happy Blue Filing Cabinet was once a sad, old castoff, but you’d never know it thanks to the makeover it got from Heather of Dollar Store Crafts.

As always, I am blown away by all of the creativity that comes my way here at Roadkill Rescue!  I’m delighted to see the may ways you continue to produce jewels from junk.  Keep those projects coming–I love to feature your hard work.  Best wishes and many roadside finds to you during 2013!

To all my fellow roadkill rescuers out there–this shows that even simple paint effects can make ‘treasure’ from ‘trash’……and you can do it!
